My name is Joel Hedrick and I am a competitive mogul skier on the United States Ski Team. I am from Fort Collins, Colorado but currently live in Park City, Utah. My home mountain is Winter Park, Colorado where I found my love for competitive mogul skiing.
I've had a passion for skiing since I was two—my dad worked at Winter Park Resort during the winters as a pro ski patroller so the family spent a lot of time on the mountain. As I learned the ropes, I found myself gravitating towards moguls over racing and Slopestyle , but dabbled in everything. I quickly advanced through the rankings and won my first freestyle moguls event—a development competition—when I was 12. Over the next few years the upward trend continued (and still does.)
My 2016-17 season was my first season skiing in the World Cup Circuit, I was on injury reserve for 18-19 as well as 19-20 ski season due to a knee injury that I sustained in preseason of 2018. I took this as a time to learn and become the best athlete that I can be mentally and physically. Through injury I have learned so much about what it takes to be the best athlete on and off the course and am happy to have had a solid season regaining my status moving into the Olympic season. I was able to win my first event back from injury as well as two nation titles thanks to the support of my family, friends, and coaches.
I spend my summers split between water ramping in Park City Utah at the Utah Olympic park, Skiing in British Columbia, Perisher Mountain, Australia, Mt. Hood, Oregon, and Zermatt, Switzerland training for the upcoming season.
In my free time I enjoy being outdoors everything from fly fishing, surfing, mountain biking, and hiking. I have a tremendous respect for the outdoors and am currently working on my bachelors degree in environmental science with a minor in business in hopes that after skiing I will be able to help make an impact on protecting our fragile ecosystems for future generations to have the same experiences that I have been so fortunate to have had.
